Non emergency Police Department: 101
Should a fire occur, evacuate immediately to a safe distance outside and call for help.
Escape Routes
From the ground floor, exit through the front or rear doors, whichever is safer.
From the upstairs floors, proceed down the stairs and exit through the front or rear. Close all doors to contain the spread of flames and smoke. As a last resort, you can exit the window on the second floor loft to the roof of the kitchen, by pulling out the bottom drawer as a step.
Detectors/Alarms
The detectors are located throughout the cottage and interlink. If you hear any alarms, you should evacuate until you know it is safe to return.
Fire Extinguisher
A dry powder fire extinguisher is beside the back door in the kitchen, adjacent to the china cabinet. It is suitable for all types of small fires.
Fire Blanket
A fire blanket is on the left side of the cabinet above the range. Pull both straps straight down, unfold the blanket as it unrolls, and cover the fire completely to smother the flames.
Wood Burning Stove
If you use the wood burner, practice good safety and be sure to let the fire die out before leaving or going to bed. Keep children away.
Other Safety Concerns
Pond
There is a pond in the backyard. Do not let young children into the garden unattended.
Garden
The garden has many trip hazards and loose stones. Stay alert and watch your footing. The deck is very slippery when wet or icy. Children should not play around the chicken coop.
Stairs
Take your time on the stairs and use the hand rails. The spiral stairs are quite steep.
Low Beams and Ceilings
Watch your head, especially in the bedrooms. It’s easy to forget when you back up to take a photo!
